Originally from New Jersey Sandy Dubpernell relocated to beautiful Whidbey Island in 1988 after a long career in the pharmaceutical industry She has always been interested in biology and holds a Master of Science Degree.
Completely self-taught, Sandy hand cuts stained glass projects using the copper foiled technique of Louis Comfort Tiffany. Wrapping each piece of glass in copper foil, rather than lead came, allows her to provide a greater amount of detail in her pictures.
Once she arrived to the West Coast and saw the magnificent Pacific Ocean, Sandy became enamored of the marine creatures that live in the surrounding waters. She became a Beach Watcher, joined the Orca Network and is an investigator for the Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Allowing her to get“up close and personal” with ocean life these organizations increased her passion for all things marine and this passion is reflected in many of the subjects in her work. The gorgeous flowers that grow nearby as well as the myriad of birds that fly overhead also became some of her favorite subjects.
