Kristi Uhles
Master Leatherworker
Kristi Uhles is a Master Leatherworker based out of Whidbey Island where she spends much of her time teaching leatherworking to new craftspeople. She began working with leather in 2010 and immediately fell in love with the versatility and durability of the media. Kristi refers to the leather creation process as "floppy engineering" and uses a unique blend of fiber and woodworking techniques to manufacture both commercial-grade products and fine art pieces. Her latest addition to the Leather Art discipline is the development of Leather Glass sculptures featuring wet-formed Vegetable Tanned Leather. Kristi draws inspiration from the natural world, ancient history, and medieval fantasy. She loves creating armor, designing purses, and developing new leatherworking tools and techniques.
