Christina "Tina" Hunter - Mosaics
Artist Bio
I began to practice the art of mosaic as a way to manage the stress of a corporate job and bring more balance to my life. In 2003 I took a six-hour class on a Saturday and never looked back. Starting with functional home décor, making mosaic mirrors and trivets, birdhouses and picture frames, I enjoyed using a combination of glass tiles and broken china.
Over the years, I took classes with some of my favorite mosaic artists which helped me expand my knowledge of mosaic tools, materials and process.
I love creating textural, natural landscapes and seascapes both representational and abstract. While I have expanded my use of materials to include stained glass, stone, and gems, I find myself going back to my mosaic roots with broken china and pottery as well as buttons, beads, jewelry and seashells.
Mosaic is such a tactile art form, I love that every time I look at a mosaic, I can see something I didn’t see before. I love that I can run my hand over it and feel the texture created by the mix of materials. And I love how the light plays off the surface of a mosaic. Embracing mosaic as an art form has brought balance, inspiration, passion and peace to my life.
