Artist Bio
Evon and Phil Steinsiek are second generation born and raised on beautiful Whidbey Island in Washington state. Their studio is located in their home on the north end of the island, only two miles from the very majestic Deception Pass Bridge and the popular and picturesque Deception Pass State Park. Phil calls upon his past experience as a journeyman carpenter to create one-of-a-kind wood bases from new and reclaimed wood for Evon's glass creations. He also builds all the display and shelving units. Evon is the glass artist. She began her walk with glass when she discovered the book "How to Make Glass Beads" by Cindy Jenkins upon its debut in 1999. She then took a community college course in Renton, WA on making glass beads with a Nortel Bench Burner torch in late 2000 and was hooked! This then led to the purchase of a small kiln and Bullseye fusing glass in 2004, with the purchase of a larger kiln when building their new home in 2009. Steinsiek Studio was born in 2014 when Phil told Evon she had to start selling her work to pay for the new glass she was buying. "I love bright colors and Bullseye Glass allows me to play with all the colors I can dream of. I also love quilt patterns. I used to quilt by hand until I developed arthritis in my thumbs. Now I quilt in glass! I take traditional patterns and mix it up by adding new, contemporary colors. While I took lessons for the glass beads and torch, I am totally self-taught as a glass fuser. I love experimenting with all aspects of glass and learned very early on, you never know what to expect upon opening the kiln at the end of a fuse."
Past gallery representation was at Sixth Street Art in Prosser, Washington. I am no longer showing there as she has retired and closed the gallery.
