Segmented Wood Turner
Picture
Throughout my time growing up, I enjoyed the wonderful colors of nature, especially when I traveled to the Southwest. I fell in love with Maria Martinez pottery, the style, color, form and symmetry. I never forgot those images.

When I retired, I finally had time to examine what my interests were. I eventually decided to explore wood turning. Looking at the grain and texture of wood really sparked my imagination. Every piece had character and personality. I started wood turning which grew into a passion. Eventually I also tried segmented wood turning. This is where one makes small wood wedges, glues them into a ring, glue the rings together to create a profile. Finally, the piece goes onto the wood lathe where the creative inspiration continues. As I am turning, a beautiful Southwest inspired shape begins to emerge. The personality of the wood begins to show itself. Seeing this emerge is what inspires me to create wood turned pieces. I enjoy sharing my wood creations with others so they can enjoy the inspired wood shapes like I do.
