Fiber Art

Picture
Artist Bio:

I am a fiber artist specializing in handmade felt art and botanical print making.
To make my felt I layer super soft natural fibers from animals and luxurious silks and then apply cool soapy water and massage, stretch and shrink it until I create a unique piece of felt art.
For my botanical prints I use real flowers and leaves rolled tightly in a bundle with silk, wool or paper which I then put into a hot dye bath for hours so that the chemistry contained in the plants will release and bond permanently with the fibers of the silk, wool or paper.
I also enjoy mixing my felt and botanical prints with other media like stone, metal, light and wood. I create wearable art, functional art, wall art and sculptural art.
My goal is to create art that others find beautiful to look at, easy to use and fun to wear. Enjoy!
I began the process of fiber work in 2009. I am both self-taught and professionally trained. I have earned numerous awards in juried shows in the Northwest including two Best of Show awards.  I am part of the Whidbey Island Art Council, Whidbey Island Art Trail and Whidbey Working Artists Open Studio Tour.  I was an instructor, advisor and teaching assistant at the Pacific Northwest Art School from 2015 through 2019.
My art is for sale on Whidbey Island, Bainbridge Island and on the big island of Hawaii.
I currently teach individuals and small groups in my home studio on Whidbey Island and larger groups at Freeland Hall in Freeland, Washington (pre-Covid). Will resume when possible.
