Artist Statement
At first glance, most people think these are eggs!  They are not….they are much more durable gourds.
Jill has been woodburning on gourds for about 15 years. Most gourds are sourced from hot dry states. Gourds need to first be dried for a season, then scrubbed and cleaned and dried again. The designs you see are first burned in with a wood burner with a variety of nibs.  After that the gourd is stained, dyed and varnished.

Although the dyes used are permanent, it is best to situate the gourds in a low light place to minimize any fading over the years. Designs are whimsical. Hope you enjoy!
